“Darinka in space comes about as a mixture of retro-futurist spacial elements from the 1960s, full of life, vibrant colours and form which are easily recognisable as characteristic of this decade.
It all began with the idea of characters from different worlds brought together by the powers of fate, setting up a different idea to the traditional concept of aliens descending to conquer humankind.
The piece is presented as a mural, in which the concept of extra large not only plays with the size of the space available on the front page of a pocket-book guide, but also with Darinka’s idea that as the extra-terrestrial is discovered, he grows in size, breaking out of his safety capsule, shattering it, and concentrating on sending peace signals.”
